Shanhai Pass
Located on the northern tip of the Bohai Gulf, Shanhaiguan, or "the pass between the mountains and the seas" is known as the place where the Great Wall meets the sea. It was here that the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) general Wu Sangui opened the wall’s gates to allow entry of the Qing army, which lead to the fall of the Ming dynasty.
Shanhaiguan is small enough to walk around and the picturesque walled city has many charming beaches.
