Solitary Beauty Peak
Guilin is synonymous with limestone hills and even in the center of the city is a 152 meter (500ft) peak known as the "pillar under the southern sky" or Solitary Beauty Peak. If you climb the 300 or so steps up the steep incline you will be rewarded with beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding hills, the Li River and the town of Guilin. At the foot of the hill is a gate built in the 14th century leading to what once was the home of the nephew of a Ming emperor, but is know the Guangxi Teacher's University.
