Drum Mountain
Drum Mountain is located 9km (42 miles) east of Fuzhou. There are some easy walking trails in the woods and forests on the lower slopes and numerous caves to explore. Many of the caves have ancient literature carved into their walls and in Lingyuan Cave alone, there are over 200 pieces of calligraphy.
The ancient Buddhist Yongquan Temple at Drum Mountain was first built in 908AD and comprises 25 halls and has a library of 27,900 volumes of Buddhist scriptures. It has been restored over the centuries and is worth investigating before climbing the 2,500 steps close by which lead to the summit of Drum Mountain.
